In her office on the phone, Marlena eats up Kate’s gossip about Maggie tossing Vivian out of the mansion. She hangs up when Talia arrives for their appointment. Talia tries to fire Marlena as her therapist, but ultimately sits for their session.
On the phone at the station, Shawn assures Belle he’s determined to get his life back on track so he can be the husband she deserves. Jada overhears as Shawn gets flirty with his wife. After he hangs up, Jada explains that Rafe sent her back from London to keep an eye on things. Shawn’s eager to catch her up, but Jada wants to clear the air about him and her sister first.
After Leo cleans the pie off his face in his hotel room, Gwen reveals she saw him and Dimitri together in Iceland. A guilt-ridden Leo declares, “You’re right. I’ve been sleeping with Dimitri.” She punches him. As he recovers, Leo admits he deserved that, as well as the pie in the face. He profusely apologizes. She tearfully chuckles over his belief that she’ll forgive him.

“You threw away our friendship for Dimitri’s magic penis,” she says through tears. Leo insists it wasn’t just about the sex. “I love him.” Gwen hopes that love is real because they won’t see one cent of Dimitri’s inheritance. She gleefully explains that she withdrew her husband’s first installment, which was better than Kristen’s plan to kill him.
As Dimitri threatens to shoot Gabi and Stefan in the mansion, Vivian shoots Dimitri in the back. She steps over his body to embrace Stefan. Stefan wants to call an ambulance, but Gabi thinks he deserves to die. Vivian agrees with her. Stefan reminds them that Dimitri needs to be alive to sign over his stock certificates. Gabi and Vivian order a weak Dimitri to sign them over, or they’ll let them die. After he complies, Stefan promises to hold up his end of the bargain.
In the interrogation room, Jada chastises Shawn for hurting everyone around him, especially his wife. Shawn knows he screwed up, but he’s not sure he can tell Belle. He doesn’t know what he’d do if he lost her. Jada gets an alert about a shooting at the DiMera mansion, and they head out.
In Marlena’s office, Talia tells Marlena how she got wasted and slept with a married man after Chanel broke up with her. Belle enters, interrupting Talia’s tearful story about that night at the Pub. Talia leaves to return to work, allowing Marlena to ask Belle how things are with Shawn.
After Dimitri is taken to the hospital, Vivian urges Stefan and Gabi to lie about what happened. As an ex-con on probation, her Second Amendment rights have been taken away. She suggests they tell them Gabi did it. Stefan worries Dimitri will contradict their story. Vivian implores her son to protect her since she just saved his life, but Gabi wants to tell the truth. Vivian hides her weapon as Shawn and Jada arrive.
At the Salem Inn, Gwen explains how she convinced Kristen to accept a one-time payout instead of killing Dimitri. Now, she’ll divorce Dimitri, who will lose his inheritance. “Such a pity,” she gloats. Leo gets a call from Dimitri’s phone. After he hangs up with the paramedic, he frantically tells Gwen that Dimitri was shot. He accuses her of being behind it and rushes out.
Racing off the hospital elevator, Leo asks Talia for an update on Dimitri. She tells Leo he’s in surgery to extract the bullet. It’s too early to know if he’ll be okay, but she’ll keep him posted. A concerned Gwen approaches. “Did you come to finish the job?” Leo shouts.
In Marlena’s office, Belle tells her mother how Shawn got drunk and slept it off in Jada and Talia’s room at the Pub. Marlena’s face falls, recalling Talia’s story about going up to her room with the married man. Marlena covers her shock as Belle explains how hard Shawn is trying to turn things around. Marlena is happy to hear it, but urges her daughter to be cautious. Belle will, but she really believes the worst is behind them.
At the mansion, Stefan tells the detectives that he and Gabi found Dimitri lying on the floor after he was shot. He points to the gun left behind on the floor. As Jada and Shawn collect it as evidence, Stefan proclaims that Vivian arrived after they found Dimitri, and they have no idea who would want to harm him.
At the hospital, Gwen insists she had nothing to do with Dimitri’s shooting. Leo demands to know why she’s there. There’s no way that bastard gets to die without her telling him off first. Leo won’t let her anywhere near him. Gwen reminds him she’s his wife. “And I’m the man he loves,” Leo retorts. “My god,” Gwen gasps. “You two really are in love.”
Leo apologizes for not coming clean from the beginning. “You were supposed to be my best friend, Matty,” Gwen says through tears. An equally emotional Leo knows he messed up. He begs her to tell him how to fix it. He can’t do anything, she responds. “Our friendship’s over.” Talia returns to tell them Dimitri is out of surgery. Gwen tells Leo to go because they have nothing left to say to each other.
In a hospital room, Leo sits with an unconscious Dimitri. He tells him he loves him more than he’s ever loved anything. He won’t leave his side. Not now, not ever. “Now that Gwennie knows the truth, you’re all I have left in the world.”
At the mansion, Vivian thanks Stefan for covering for her, while Gabi scowls. Stefan tells his wife he had to protect his mother. At least he didn’t have to take a bullet for her this time, Gabi angrily responds. When Gabi wonders why she’s even there, Vivian explains about Victor’s will. All she has now is a son who takes care of his adoring mother.
In Marlena’s office. Talia wonders why Marlena wanted to see her since she already told her everything. Marlena counters that Talia didn’t tell her she slept with her son-in-law.
In the interrogation room, Shawn asks if he and Jada are good. She tells him to focus on getting his act together, and they’ll see what happens. She promises she won’t tell anyone he slept with her sister. A stunned Belle appears in the doorway.
