During a sit down with Soap Opera Digest, Jamie, 20, opened up about his decision to exit his role as troubled teen Tate Black on the long-running series.
Jamie wraps up his time on the show on Thursday, April 4, with his character being exonerated after being arrested for a crime he didn’t commit and going to rehab.
The TV star admitted he thought it was the perfect conclusion to Tate’s story.
“I felt a lot of gratitude that I had the chance to close the storyline,” Jamie told the outlet.
“It was extremely fulfilling both for the character and also just for me, acting-wise, to be able to see the other side [of Tate’s predicament], to be able to actually step out, go back and re-encounter that sense of normalcy.”
Jamie joined the Days of Our Lives cast in September 2023, splitting his time on the set in Los Angeles, California, and as a student at the University of Michigan.
The Netflix star revealed that his desire to focus on his education led to his decision to bow out of Days.
“I filmed the last two weeks of the show in the first month of my junior year,” Jamie stated, noting that “traveling back and forth would’ve been a considerable impediment to [obtaining a] musical theater degree.”
The TV personality also mentioned that he didn’t want his divided attention between his role on Days and his schooling to affect his co-stars.
“I also think it would not have been fair to the show and to my fellow castmates to be not dedicating the time required to [the job].

“You’re only as good as your partner. If you’re working with a scene partner who’s not prepared and who’s not fully committed, it’s not fair. And it’s not fun to do that. I didn’t want to put any of those fellow actors that I respected so much through that position.”
Jamie went on to say that after much consideration, he thought it was best to finish his degree without any distractions.
“I really just want to be able to close this chapter before I inevitably enter the industry again,” he added.
Despite feeling confident with the move, Jamie confessed that it wasn’t easy to leave his Days castmates behind.

“To leave [Days] was quite difficult,” he told the publication, adding that he “wanted to stay and continue to work with all of my favorite people.”
Last month, TV Insider reported that Disney Channel alum Leo Howard, 26, would assume the role of Tate as of April 5.
“I was glad for [Howard] to come in with a blank slate rather than having to pick up in the middle of some really intense material,” Jamie said about Leo taking over.
“I also think that, for the viewers, it’s going to be a little bit less jarring because he gets to start fresh in this moment.”
The young actor added, “I watched Leo as a kid in [the Disney series] Kickin’ It, and he’s awesome. I’m really excited to see what fresh take he brings, and I’m glad that he has the material to justify that.”
Jamie is also a regular on the Netflix show Country Comfort, playing Brody alongside Katherine McPhee, 40, and Eddie Cibrian, 50.
