There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a beloved character returning to a show you love. The familiar faces, the intricate storylines, the town that feels like home – all of it brings back a sense of comfort and excitement. For fans of “Days of Our Lives,” the return of Bryan Dattilo as Lucas Horton is a welcome surprise, and it’s not just because he’s back in Salem.
Dattilo has been gone from the show for some time, but when he returned, he wasn’t just the same Lucas we left behind. His transformation was more than just a few new lines or a slightly different haircut. He’s back with a renewed energy and a completely transformed physique, leaving fans wondering what else might be changing about the character they know and love.
A Transformation Inspired by a Fan’s Question
Dattilo’s journey to a healthier lifestyle was sparked by an unexpected source: a fan. During a public appearance, a fan asked Dattilo if he wore a fat suit on the show, a question that left him feeling both embarrassed and determined to make a change.“It was the fat suit question from the fan that made me say, ‘You know what? I can’t do it any more,’ ” Dattilo shares, admitting that he was “almost 190 pounds at the time. Then I saw a picture of myself from the PA, and I thought, ‘I am big.’ We all have our comfort zones and non-comfort zones.Once you get out of your comfort zone, you should do something about it and make sure it sticks, which is the hard part.”
A New Approach to Wellness: Dattilo’s 100-Day Challenge
Dattilo decided to take his health into his own hands, embarking on a 100-day fitness challenge. He documented his progress on Instagram, sharing videos of his workouts, his diet, and his commitment to transforming his life.
“I went home and decided to start by doing these 100 days of working out videos,” he adds. “I would take my shirt off and be honest. I’d work out in jeans and say, ‘I have 30 pounds to lose, and this is how I’m going to do it.’ And that was it.
When you do something like that, it makes you accountable, so you have to do it.”
A Renewed Energy: Dattilo’s Return to “Days of Our Lives”
Dattilo’s dedication has paid off, and his transformation is evident on screen. He’s bringing a renewed energy to his role, and fans are excited to see what’s next for Lucas.Dattilo has already filmed a few story arcs since his return, and he’s excited about the direction his character is taking.
“I had a really good arc for a couple of weeks that I just got done with,” Dattilo shares. “I flirt with getting out of jail.
It’s a cool storyline, and I got to work with people that I’d never worked with before, which was great. It was a really cool arc, the best arc I’ve had in a while. Now I’m kind of in a holding pattern until something else happens.”
Balancing Life on and Off the Screen
While Dattilo is excited about his return to “Days,” he’s also enjoying the balance he’s found in his life.
He’s a devoted husband and father, and he finds fulfillment in his family life.
“I’ve had times when the job takes over your life. You’re working five days a week, and you don’t see anybody at home. You don’t have time to appreciate what you have.
That’s not easy. That is hard. That hurts. But you also don’t have to worry about the bills, when you have that. So there’s a trade off. You can’t have it all.”
Dattilo is grateful for his family, his health, and the opportunity to return to “Days of Our Lives.” He’s excited to see what the future holds for Lucas, and for him, both on and off the screen.
