It looks like we have to say goodbye to yet another beloved former Days of Our Lives family member. Susan Seaforth Hayes shared the news of composer Martin Davich’s passing over on Instagram. He worked with Days of Our Lives throughout the ’80s and into the early ’90s as composer, music director and music coordinator. But that’s not all, because we’re guessing longtime viewers will actually recognize him from all his appearances in front of the camera as well.
“Marty Davich was our piano man in the golden years of Days music,” Hayes shared. “Often on camera, rarely with dialogue, he spoke through the themes he played. Always perfect, always ingenious, always beautiful… just like the man.”
Hayes shared a photo of Davich with beloved husband Bill Hayes (Doug) and Robert Clary (Robert), all of whom have sadly since passed on. “This photo is from 1980,” she shared, “a circus night at Doug’s Place, the Salem nightclub of fondest memory. Here are the three musicians I loved so much. I imagine them again, in heaven, making music with the angels.”
Davich’s work didn’t end with Days of Our Lives, though. After leaving the sudser, he moved on to work as composer for General Hospital and its spinoff Port Charles — where he composed the supernatural sudser’s theme music. Chances are, even if you weren’t watching back in the glory days of Doug’s Place, you know Davich and his music.
His work went far beyond daytime, composing for dozens of primetime shows, including ER, Third Watch and Southland, the last of which he, again, composed the show’s theme music.
Hayes finished her tribute by writing, “Farewell, dear Marty, and bravo on a life well played.” Bravo, indeed. Our hearts go out to Davich’s family and loved ones as they say farewell to a man who left his mark on Salem and beyond.
