Remember when our favorite soaps had massive budgets and could afford splashy remotes all over the globe? Good times, right? Well, there’s location shoots, and then there’s location shots, as Days of our Lives’ Judi Evans quickly discovered while filming in Greece back in 1987.
The actress shared a bit of hysterical behind-the-scenes trivia recently, after fans on Twitter/X tagged her in a classic clip of Adrienne trying ouzo for the first time at Justin and Victor’s behest. The potent Greek spirit is, as Wally Kurth’s Justin describes in the scene, “a cross between black licorice and dynamite.” It packs a heckuva punch — which Evans soon found out.
“The ouzo was real,” she revealed on October 28. “It was like 9AM. By 9:30 am, I was done in,” she laughed.

Evans’ longtime leading man Wally Kurth corroborated the ouzo being real with a hearty “indeed it was!” before adding, “That was an amazing week in Greece. We worked so hard and really had little time to sight-see. But we did it anyway.”
Possibly with a massive hangover, going by what his on-screen bride had to say. Because Evans went on to explain that “they had no laws about serving real alcohol on sets in Greece at the time, and we had no idea.” Unlike filming in America. “Back in the States, sets were very strict about that and using real alcohol was a big no-no.”
But as the saying goes, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do.” (No, not those Romans. The Bradys strike us as whiskey guys.) And Judi Evans embraced the sentiment. “I guess, when in Rome/Greece, you go where the culture leads…” she said with tongue firmly in cheek. “Even under the table.”
So, forget gifts. Maybe we should beware Greeks bearing drinks!
